That Felt Good
Not only did I get up at 4:30 and get to the gym by 5:00, I had a good workout besides.
I have had to do a lot of soul searching the past few days about my fitness. I knew I had to do something to get back on track. I am sure that everyone, whether new to fitness or just a beginner, has had the problem I am having. Promising yourself that tomorrow will be the day you make a promise you can keep and get going on fitness. There can sure be a lot of tomorrows.
Morning workouts are best for me for four reasons. First, I think I get a better workout because my muscles and body are totally rested from a nights sleep. Plus, after the workout I can have a meal that gives me a lot of carbs and protein. Second, I am going to the gym when it is less crowded and the people who are there are serious about their workout. Not much socializing. Third, my family is still sleeping and I am not sacrificing time away from them. Fourth, excuses or situations don't come up during the day to prevent me from doing my workout.
So, what prevents me from working out? Am I too busy? Am I too tired? No to all of these. I am just lazy sometimes. I wish Nike hadn't patented this saying, but I need to "just do it". Visualizing helps me perform when I have to do something challenging, so I just pictured myself getting up early and being pleased with what did. I think it worked.
No weight training today for me. I still don't feel in very good shape so I think I'll take a few days and do cardio only. It will make me feel good mentally and physically. I really need to shed a few pounds.
This morning I spent 35 minutes on the elliptical orbiter. Not my machine of choice for interval training but it is pretty good for overall conditioning. Now that it's been a few hours since my workout I feel good and it was a good decision. I'm going to do the same for a few more days.
More tomorrow.
Have a good workout,
Jerry
